Perfect Picture Books

Dear Parents, Teachers, Librarians, Writers, and Gift-Givers,

Looking for the perfect book?

You've come to the perfect place :)

There are millions of great books out there, but sometimes it's hard to find just the right one.  How do you know if a book is worth lugging home from the library or, even more important, worth your hard-earned money?

Perhaps you need a book on a certain subject for your child, or to enhance a curriculum unit in your classroom or homeschool.  Perhaps you're looking for a gift and aren't sure what would be appropriate.

Below you will find books listed alphabetically by category and title with suitable ages in parentheses.  Some are older books and some are newer, but every single book is highly recommended.  In addition, they all include resources for expanding their use at home and in the classroom!

Know a great book that's not on the list that you would highly recommend?  Join in Perfect Picture Book Fridays or send your suggestion to susanna@susannahill.com (or use the Email Me button on the right) and please let your friends know about this list :)  For full details on submission/joining, please see the bottom of this page.  (And for a great article on the importance of picture books, please see Creating Reluctant Readers And Picture Books by Heather Newman.)

For your convenience, the list is presented first by theme/subject/category (alphabetically), then by title (alphabetically) so you can search for a particular book or see at a glance all the books that have been done.  Please scroll to find the list you want.

I'd also like to share a wonderful new resource for teachers created by Marcie Colleen - The Picture Book Month Teachers Guide which details how teachers can make use of picture books in all areas of their curricula.

THE LIST! (Alphabetical By Theme/Category/Subject)
Each of the links below will take you to the corresponding Pinterest Board which shows all the listed books in that theme/category/subject.  (This project is underway and not even close to complete, so I thank you for your patience while I update!)
